At-Home Dental Care Tips To Keep Your Teeth & Gums Healthier

BRUSH TWICE A DAY, AND AFTER MEALS

Brushing your teeth with a soft brush is a great way to get rid of plaque buildup, which can lead to tooth decay if it’s left unchecked. It also helps your gums, because massaging them stimulates circulation and helps firm up tissue; it also gets rid of accumulating bacteria, thus diminishing your risk of getting gum disease.

Brushing your teeth when you wake up and right before bedtime is a good habit to get into. In addition, it’s helpful to brush teeth after meals, because if food particles stay on your teeth too long, bacteria can propagate and cause conditions that create cavities and other forms of tooth decay. If you can’t brush after meals, at the very least be sure to rinse your mouth with clean water.

Floss Regularly

Your toothbrush simply can’t reach the areas between your teeth; that’s why it’s a good idea to supplement brushing with flossing. Daily flossing is a good idea, but if you forget, don’t sweat it. Floss as often as you remember, so long as you’re doing it at the very least a couple of times a week.

Get Into The Habit Of Gargling

It may seem like an old-fashioned and even outdated practice, but gargling is actually a beneficial habit to get into, and it’s so easy to do this at home by your bathroom sink. Gargle with mouthwash, salt water, or even just plain water to get rid of germs that accumulate in your mouth and throat. Cleaning your mouth out through gargling will help maintain your oral health and keep your teeth healthier over time.

Eat Healthy

Eating a balanced diet ensures you get all the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. Of course, this includes your gums and teeth, which need the right amount and combination of vitamins and minerals to stay strong and look great. As part of your diet, be sure to include apples, carrots, Asian pears, celery, and other crunchy fruits and vegetables that help clean your teeth. Avoid sticky, overly sweet foods that will adhere to your teeth and create dental havoc.
